Bonito Generation is a 2016 album by indie pop group Kero Kero Bonito. I really am not sure how to start this review without sounding incredibly biased... but I love this album! I've been listening to it for years, so I know it very well by now, and to me, this is a perfect pop album. It's positive, upbeat, engaging, and just all around fun to listen to.
Every track gives you something new, but the entire album orbits around this idea of change, of breaking out, of getting out of your Fish Bowl. But, again, it's all very positive and upbeat. Maybe to a fault? I know that the later works of Kero Kero Bonito have dialed back that overwhelming positivity Bubblegum Pop aesthetic, but here, now? It works beautifully.
It's not a very long album, only 36 minutes, but there is not a wasted moment on the entire work. I love the bi-lingual nature of the album, how Sarah's singing goes in and out of japanese. It's not an original idea by any means, but her voice works so well in both languages that I can't get enough.
Again, I don't really have too much to say, other than to highly recommend the album. Perhaps I will expound more on my thoughts later, after I have had some more time to think about it.
